Mainly known as a maker of fun, flexible tripods for compact consumer cameras, Joby last year introduced a Ballhead for its slightly smaller Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Tripod which can support entry-level DSLRs. The new Ballhead X fits on top of the Gorillapod Focus which can support up to 11 pounds of camera gear including some professional DSLRs. The Ballhead X lets photographers more easily and fluidly pan, tilt and rotate their cameras on the Gorillapod Focus tripod. It comes with a quick release plate that stays attached to the camera for fast set-up. Though it's aimed at pros, the Gorillapod Focus is relatively lightweight and can be stashed in most camera bags for location shoots. The Ballhead X is made from precision-machined anodized aluminum and weighs just over 9 ounces with a height of 3.3-inches. It has both universal 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch threads. The Ballhead X will be available in April for $79.95. The Gorillapod Focus sells for $99.95. More info here. |
