Tiffen Dfx

It’s no surprise that Tiffen’s Dfx v. 2, like its predecessor, speaks in photographic terms. This application, available as a standalone or a plug-in, features a huge assortment of filters and special effects sorted into nine categories including: Film Lab, Gels, HFX Diffusion, HFX Grads/Tints, Image, lens, Light, Photographic and Special Effects. There's literally 2,000 filters and effects included in Tiffen Dfx version 2.0.

Best of all, it’s one-touch simple to add effects to your images such as a Gold Reflector or increase/decrease depth-of-field. Blurs, vignettes, black and white conversion, grain, graduated color filters, simulated Rosco gels are only a tiny sampling of what this amazing plug-in application contains.

Along with all these presets, Dfx also has a parameter adjustment panel so you can tweak to your heart’s (or eyes’) content. Add simple masking tools and a few other features and Dfx emerges as a very cool and highly functional application. And, according to the Tiffen site, it’s Snow Leopard compatible.

Cost: $149.95 standalone; $299.95 Photoshop or Aperture; $599 for Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects and Avid AVX.
