Lowepro was showing of its brand new professional bag line at PMA 2010 today: the Pro Runner AW series of backpacks and convertible rollers for on-the-go photographers.

Whereas Lowepro's extra durable Pro Trekker line is designed for rough and tumble work in the great outdoors, the Pro Runner AW series is built for street photography; commuter travel with photo gear; and easy stowage on airlines.

There are six models in the Pro Runner AW backpack line with the number indicating the maximum size of the lens it can carry: the 200AW ($89.99); 300AW ($179.99); 350AW ($199.99); 450AW ($249.99); x350AW ($299.99); and x450AW ($379.99).

The Pro Runner x350 and x450 backpacks have wheels and easily convert into rolling bags with a spring-loaded trolley handle on top. If you want to carry a laptop with your camera gear but don't need the roller bag, go with the 350AW or 450AW which has a separate padded sleeve for a notebook computer.

The two larger, roller bags have a removable sleeve for laptops so that are easy to take out when going through airport security.

We checked out the bags at Lowepro's booth at PMA today and were impressed with how sleek, streamlined and discretely designed they were. More details in the press release below.

Lowepro’s Convertible Pro Runner AW Offers Comfort of a Backpack and Convenience of a Roller

Pro Runner delivers a compact, feature-filled and travel-friendly carrying solution designed to fit the needs of photojournalists, professional photographers and photographic enthusiasts.

Lowepro, a product design company that builds protective gear for photography equipment and portable electronics, today announced the launch of the Pro Runner AW series of backpacks and convertible rollers. This streamlined six-model series offers the protective comfort and travel-ready durability for which Lowepro has become known, while the covertible design keeps gear accessible whether the bag is configured as a backpack or a rolling case.

“Our Pro Runner AW series embodies what busy photojournalists and location photographers are looking for in a camera backpack,” said Tim Grimmer, Lowepro product manager. “They need their carrying solutions to be agile in urban settings and built for hassle-free travel—those qualities define the Pro Runner AW,” he added.

Each of the backpacks feature a lightweight, compact and sleek shape that’s designed to move nimbly through busy airports, metro stations and crowded sidewalks. The four larger models feature padded laptop compartments. The two largest models feature a checkpoint-friendly laptop sleeve—so there’s no need to remove the laptop from its sleeve at the security checkpoint.

Protective features keep these camera backpacks safeguarded from the elements. Lowepro’s patented, built-in All Weather AW Cover protects backpack contents from rain, sand and dust storms and tucks away when not in use. Rainflap lids cover all the zippered closures offering added protection for gear. Side compression straps with quick-release buckles (all models except 200 AW) provide extra security for the main camera compartment.

The Pro Runner x350 and x450 backpacks also provide a convertible rolling solution for globetrotting photographers. The spring-loaded trolley handle and replaceable wheels let the pro move smoothly through busy airports. The padded harness system quickly converts the roller to a backpack with two easy attachments.

Along with its protective and travel-wise details, Pro Runner AW backpacks are constructed to provide the necessary support for long-wearing comfort. A padded mesh backpad offers superior lumbar support and helps wick away moisture. The adjustable, padded shoulder straps provide the wearer with a customized fit keeping weight evenly balanced while moving from location to location, and the tuck-away waist strap offers stability and helps minimize movement.

To keep gear as accessible as possible for each photographer’s individual needs, the fully padded and completely customizable main compartments easily adjust for a variety of gear arrangements. A discreet front pocket offers quick access to and organization for personal items like a light jacket, cell phone, or MP3 player. A zippered document pocket (all models except 200 AW and 300 AW) provides a handy place to stash boarding passes or a passport. The Hideaway Tripod Mount™ system secures a compact tripod or monopod to the pack or seamlessly folds into a storage pocket when not needed.

The six models accommodate a wide range of capacities and endless packing options for a variety of camera gear, accessories and lenses sized up to 300mm—from a DSLR with attached lens, plus two or three lenses and accessories in the smallest 200 AW model, to a pro DSLR with attached 300mm lens, three to four extra lenses or accessories along with a 17” widescreen laptop in the largest x450 model.

Pro Runner 200 AW and 300 AW are available in Black and Pine Green/Black; Pro Runner 350 AW, 450 AW, x350 AW and x450 AW are available in Black only. The MSRP for each model is as follows:
