If your studio has become a rat’s nest of power cords and chargers, you should check out the Powermat Wireless Charging System. Though it may look like a skateboard without wheels, the Powermat ($100) is actually a magnetic induction charging system which will power up to three devices without having to plug them in.

Just place your gadget on the Powermat—it’s currently compatible with about 10 different devices—and it will charge in about the same amount of time as plugging it into the wall. There are a few catches, however.

For one, receivers with radio ID chips inside them must be attached to each device so the Powermat can tell exactly how much charge to give them. Along with adding bulk to the device, each receiver costs an additional $30 to $40 which adds to the overall cost. Also, since the Powermat itself must be plugged into the wall, it’s not completely wireless.

Nonetheless, this exciting technology is another step toward ridding the world of that spaghetti bowl of wires that continues to strangle our lives.

Cost: $100 for Powermat; $30 to $40 for individual receivers
