Objects of Desire: Wooden Laptop Case

Wooden Laptop Case

Wood is good. That's the message from master craftsman Rainer Spehl who created this handsome new wooden case for the original 15-inch Macbook and Macbook Pro. (Apple's slightly changed the dimensions of the new Macbook and Macbook Pro so those models won't fit in this case. A new version of the case which is compatible with the latest laptops is on its way soon, according to Rainer Spehl.)

The cases, which are handcrafted in Germany, remind us a lot of those wooden portfolios that were all the rage in the 1990s and which you still see around today. The frame is made from a combination of solid oak and oak-veneered plywood while its interior is lined with luxurious brown leather to comfortably swaddle your precious Apple product and prevent it from scratching.

Brass hinges and a magnetic lock seal the case so your laptop won't fall out even when it's held upside down. The case also makes a good elevated working surface to set your laptop on. And as everyone who's tried one knows, those Apple Macbook Pros can get mighty hot!

Cost: $280
