Nikon D2XS

The Nikon D2Xs is the model with the “s” update dramatically improving the already powerful, top-of-the-line professional camera. Functioning as two cameras in one, the D2Xs is able to capture 12.4-megapixel images at four frames per second, or 6.8 megapixel images at eight frames per second in a mode called High Speed Crop. This means a photographer can go from shooting high-resolution portraits at more than 12 megapixels to capturing fast-moving action at eight frames per second with the push of a button. To capture at the higher rate, the camera automatically uses only a portion of the sensor.
One of the big changes to the “s” version is better masking of the display for easier composition. In standard shooting mode, the D2Xs has a 1.5x focal length multiplier, the same as the D2Hs, while in high speed crop mode, its focal length multiplier is 2.0. As with the Nikon D2Hs, the D2Xs uses the 3D-Color Matrix II metering system, which evaluates a scene and determines the best possible balance of exposure. It also shares the same multi-CAM 2000 AF, auto-focus system, chassis and LCD screen as its D2Hs sibling. One clear difference is that the D2Xs boasts the industry’s fastest response time, with a 37-millisecond shutter release time and instant startup. Also unique is the image authentication feature, which allows images to be used in legal proceedings without fear of tampering, making this the camera of choice for the forensic or courtroom photographer.
