MACBOOK PRO 17-INCH AND 15-INCH

The photographic road warrior could have no better friend than the Apple MacBook Pro—an Intel Core 2 Duo-toting laptop. Some users may even toss their desktops, thanks to the MacBook Pro’s powerful graphics processors and support for external displays. The system comes in both 15-and 17-inch versions, but it’s the 17-inch model that really shines. It can handle up to 4 gb of internal memory (twice as much as most laptops). The processor is available up to 2.4Ghz, while the screen display comes in a matte or glossy surface. An iSight video camera built into the lid makes for easy video conferencing with the included iChat software. Other well-thought features include backlit keys, making airplane work a snap, and a MagSafe connector that keeps the system from flying across the room when the power cord is tugged. For the energy-conscious, the new 15-inch revision of the MacBook Pro features LCD backlighting that uses less power and is mercury free, something fluorescent-backed displays can’t claim.

Retail price: $2,799 (for 2.5Ghz 17-inch model with base configuration)
