Vizio 55-inch XVT LCD HDTV

If you want to get a big high-definition television for your home or studio but think they're still way too expensive to justify the cost, you've obviously never heard of the name Vizio. Though Vizio's HDTV prices are insanely cheap when stacked up against comparable LCD and plasma sets from Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony and others, the quality is still surprisingly good. (Vizio's "budget" HDTVs frequently hit the top of the rating scales at review sites such as PCMag.com and CNET.)

One of Vizio's most recent entries is the whopping huge, 55-inch XVT LCD HDTV (model name VF550XVT1A), which features 120Hz technology for a fast refresh rate that eliminates the annoying ghosting that often occurs in some LCD sets when showing sports. This 1080p model also features Smooth Motion Video Technology, which is designed to deliver smoother frame rates in fast action scenes.

Blacks look great on this set thanks to an estimated dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1. Other high-end extras include nine high-definition inputs, including five HDMI ports, and SRS TruSurround HD to give you a movie-theater-like experience. We also like that the TV automatically adjusts the volume when you channel surf so that noisy commercials don't blow out your eardrums.

With all these features and the huge screen size you'd think this 55-inch set would cost over $4,000. Wrong. Vizio is pricing it at just $1,999. Get it. You know you really want it.

Cost: $1,999
