Kiboko Bag from Gura Gear

What do you do if you're a photographer and can't find the right bag to suit your needs? Start your own bag company and build a better product! Though this may sound a bit extreme, it is exactly what wildlife photographer Andy Biggs has done with Gura Gear, a line of camera bags designed specifically for outdoor photography. The first product in the Gura Gear line is the Kiboko, a spartan and lightweight bag that emphasizes comfort and ease of use over gratuitous bells and whistles.

We got a sneak peek of the Kiboko at PhotoPlus Expo in October and we were impressed with how Biggs was able to minimize the design to cut down on heft. Even though it weighs just four pounds, the bag can house a lot of gear, including a pro-level digital SLR, a medium-format camera, and a 500mm and 600mm lens simultaneously. To keep the weight down while maintaining toughness, the Kiboko is built with Dimension Polyant VX-21, a light and durable water-shedding material used on sailboats. Dimensions are 9.5 x 14 x 20 inches, making it carry-on compliant for domestic and international flights.

The bag can be worn as a backpack or carried as a shoulder bag and uses a simple butterfly flap system that allows you to grab your vital equipment quickly while keeping other gear stowed away safely. One nice touch for cold-weather shooters: the zippers have been specifically designed for easy grabbing even when wearing winter gloves.

Cost: $399
