Objects of Desire: The Multimedia Wired Up CollectionAug 2, 2009 By Dan Havlik
The aim of these bags, which include a potpourri of audio, video, and DSLR-focused models, is to manage all the cables and cords that are needed on a multimedia assignment. With the Wired Up collection, Think Tank Photo's created a network of "cable ports" on the sides and bottoms of the bags that allows your various devices to be connected together without getting you snagged by exposed wires or cables. The Wired Up bags are designed to work with Think Tank Photo's belt systems so they'll always be ready for action at your waist. There are six bags in the system including the Multimedia Wired Up 10 and 20 which are the base models that house your Canon 5D Mark II, Nikon D90 or other DSLRs with up to a 24-70mm lens attached. There's also enough room for a standing 70-200mm in the Wired Up 20. Along with the requisite cable ports, there's an audio pocket that fits up to a Marantz 600 digital recorder. There are also side pockets for microphones and a new design concept called "Mic Hands" which lets you mount a mic on the side of the bag for hands-free recording. We also like the "headphone hook" that lets you attach full-size headphones onto the waist belt. Other bags in the line-up include a Wired Up Mic Drop In pouch which, as the name suggests, lets you drop in a shotgun mic so it can be quickly removed to record sound. There's also a Wired Up Recorder modular case to hold a small audio recorder with a full-view design and a "Quick Tab" feature that lets you easily check your audio levels; a larger Wired Up Big Audio case; and a Wired Up Wireless Mic Kit case for carrying multiple wireless mic sets. Yet, along with supplying room for your visual tools, what will likely strike photographers most about the Wire Up Collection is how much attention Think Tank Photo paid to your audio needs with these bags.
