Gorillapod Focus from Joby

We’ve always like Joby’s bendable Gorillapod tripods which let you mount your digital camera in unusual locations for unique photo ops but never have we felt comfortable using them with our heavy pro DSLRs. Sure, the Gorillapod SLR-Zoom was released a couple of years ago—it was designed to support up to 6.6 pounds of gear—but we’ve always felt shaky using it with our heavy and expensive, high-end cameras and glass. The latest Gorillapod from Joby should help ease our fears.

Called the Gorillapod Focus, this new tripod weighs only 1.1-pounds, but it can support up to 11 pounds of gear. Built with tough, machined aluminum sockets and designed with an eye-catching anodized gunmetal finish, the Gorillapod Focus is not only suited for time-lapse, available-light or other long-exposure photography, its size and shape makes it compatible with professional digital camcorders as well.

Attach your camera or camcorder to the Focus via its sturdy stainless- steel screw mount and wrap the Gorillapod on a railing, tie it to a tree or mount it on a chair or cliff(!) and you're ready to start shooting. The Focus ships with a 3/8-inch adapter screw in place and can be used with or without a pro tripod head.

Cost: $149
