Canon has issued a free firmware update for its new EOS-1D Mark IV digital SLR. According to Canon, firmware update 1.0.6 "enhances the AF (autofocus) tracking performance of the EOS-1D Mark IV."

More specifically, Canon says that with update 1.0.6. for the Mark IV "AF performance has been enhanced for receding subjects and for subjects that are approaching at a low speed."

Considering the issues the Mark IV's predecessor, the Canon 1D Mark III, had with its autofocus system, this seemingly minor firmware update doesn't look so minor.
