Here's some more grist for the rumor mill: Nikon has reportedly filed a patent application for viewfinder technology that includes a small display screen that is viewable in the optical viewfinder.

The technology would allow photogs to alternate between the optical image and the digital display, which could be particularly handy if you want a wide viewing angle when zooming in. You can check out diagrams of the technology here.
