Canon Plans to Attend Photokina 2010Oct 5, 2009 By Dan Havlik, PDN Technology Specialist
Photokina, which is held every two years in Colgone, is the world's largest trade show for photo imaging products. Approximately 170,000 people attended photokina 2008. The 2010 show will be held September 21-26, 2010. The news that Canon Europe will be attending photokina comes a little less than a week after Canon USA surprised the photo industry by saying it would not participate in the PMA 2010 trade show in Anaheim, CA next year. Eliott Peck, Canon USA's Vice President and General Manger, told PDN Gear Guide last week that the decision to bow out of PMA 2010 resulted from "changes in the industry" including the "convergence of technologies" and faster product life cycles. Peck also said the decision was made, in part, because of the timing of the PMA 2010 show and the move of the event to Anaheim from Las Vegas. Though Canon USA won't be at PMA 2010, the company will participate at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January. (The Nielsen Business Media Photo Group, which publishes PDN, runs a trade show as part of the PhotoPlus Expo. Canon is participating in that show next month.) |
